Newsletter 1 – March 2008
The season has started early this year in south France. Already in the beginning of March a lot of pilots arrived. After very nice weather during February we had winter conditions with snow again the first two weeks of March.

Some days ago the nearly brand new DG 505 MB (300 hours, 100 take offs) arrived in Gap-Tallard and is already flying in spring time thermals and waves. You have the choice of 20 meters wingspan with winglets or 22 meters. You can reserve it for cross country flights with flight instructor and mountain glider flight familiarization. It is also for rent daily or weekly. You can make your self launch rating (10 take offs with instructor and 10 solo). A lot of information about the glider, the equipment and the reservation planning you can find on www.glidercharter.de (english version comming soon)

We will bring the DG 505 MB to Bitterwasser/Namibia in the season 2008/2009 so you can rent it there. More information about Bitterwasser on the homepage www.bitterwasser.com. For reservation please contact Lydia Casper Tel: +49(0)79515154

The Twin Acro of the Aero Club Alpin is back from the workshop at Grob with the modification of the fuselage to regain airworthiness for aerobatic flights. So this season we can do aerobatic training beside the normal offer of mountain training and cross country flights. Why wouldn’t you reactivate your aerobatic experience…!?
|

|
|
We can still use the micro light motor glider Lambada for training flights next season . For example we can do approaches to the out landing fields from the catalog, land on other airfields and also use it for distance flights if there are no soaring weather conditions.

Springtime in Gap-Tallard. There is still snow on the mountains Morgon and Dormillouse like you can see on the picture

Wingsuit versus Glider
„Wingsuit
versus Glider“ or the game with the performance
Sponsors:
Red Bull, Salomon
Pilot
Wingsuit: Loic Jean-Albert; www.flyyourbody.com
Flying together Wingsuit –
Salto! We
spend one week to try what is possible in the air and to get a maximum of nice
images for Red Bull and Salomon. The project is located at Gap-Tallard with
nice meteorological conditions and very good service for skydivers and glider
pilots. The idea was born regarding wingsuit-flights, I mean really “flights”.
If you see those flights from the ground, you can see a gliding-angel, performance
2,5!
So is it possible to fly together with this simple human glider and a real
glider?!
|

|
|
First
experiments have already been done in summer of 2005. Martin Kroke takes off with
his Salto by air-tow and climbs to the maximum altitude in thermals. Loic Jean-Albert jumps out of the
Pilatus Porter after taking position about 200 meters vertically
over the Salto. Loic tries to come close to the glider witch fly with airbrakes
and a small speed break parachute (drop). First experiences shows that the size of the small
parachute is the most important. The first used drop is too small, the glider
accelerates too much with the same descending angle as the wingsuit; the
original parachute from the salto works also bad: he turns too much with the
higher speed.
More
experiments have been done one year later with better conditions: Loic got money
from his sponsor Red Bull. We towed the Salto up to 4000 meters over the
ground and Loic jumps out of the Pilatus like
usual so we have more time to fly together. With the experience of last year we
found the right size of the parachute soon. Flying together works very well now
and Loic can play with his position to the glider like you can see in the video.
